Facebook Marketing Campaign Examples — Entertainment Brands

Disney's Facebook marketing campaignsBy looking at the Facebook marketing campaigns of large brands, a small business owner or entrepreneur can better understand how they use Facebook business pages to build awareness and promote.  In this series of posts, we’ll review the pages of companies, by industry, that made Ignite Social’s list of the Top 50 Branded Facebook Fan Pages of 2010 vs 2009.

Below, I identify pages of entertainment brands on that list, giving each brand’s rank in both years.  Then I note Facebook Page Tabs and campaigns that caught my eye in January 2011.

Facebook Business Pages of Entertainment Brands

Disney Facebook Page – Rank 6 in 2010, Rank 6 in 2009

  • Disney Pages Tab – “Top Pages” lists other Facebook business pages for theme parks and individual movies, with opportunity to Like each.  Below that is “Top News.”
  • Wallpapers Tab – Slick colored designs to download, each of which “takes its mod inspiration from the brilliant hues celebrated on the show (Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color).”
  • Tickets Together Tab – “Lets you and your friends buy movie passes to Tangled without leaving Facebook.”

Disney Pixar Facebook Page – Rank 24 in 2010, Rank 47 in 2009

  • Wall Tab (Landing Tab) – Company updates and Fan Comments.
  • Fan Board tab – Good-looking discussion board, topped with video.
  • Videos Tab – 19 trailers and TV spots.

Disneyland Facebook Page – Rank 24 in 2010, Rank 36 in 2009

  • I’m Going Tab – Search and Ask Question options, plus Question of the Day.
  • Share Memories Tab (Landing Tab) – Flash graphic that invites one to search for photos, videos, stories of those who have visited.  Option to create an album.
  • Worlds of Color Tab – Video promo for “nighttime water spectacular,”  which can be heard in Chinese, French or Spanish.

MTV Facebook Page – Rank 9 in 2010, Rank 32 in 2009

MTV's Facebook marketing campaign to involve Fans

  • Wall Tab (Landing Tab) – Company updates and Fan Comments.
  • MTV Me Tab – Appears to offer an opportunity to create and display a mash up of MTV celeb and fan photo  (Screenshot above.)
  • Try Temptd Tab – Weight loss activity: “Join the trainers and participants from I Used To Be Fat on Temptd now.”
  • JS Game Tab – Jersey Shore game content and interactions.
  • Videos Tab – 40 videos by MTV and 66 videos by Fans.

Playstation Facebook Page – Rank 20 in 2010, No rank in 2009

  • LBP2 Tab (Landing Tab) – Promotes a game-related event: “Experience endless fun on January 18, 2011.”
  • Other game Tabs: Motorstorm, Killzone3, PS move, Gods of War.
  • PS3 Fan Stories Tab – Share your data to access this Tab.
  • The Tester2 Tab – Meet the cast in videos and “look for weekly updates.”

Walt Disney World Facebook Page – Rank 34 in 2010, No rank in 2009

  • I’m Going Tab – Search and Ask Question options, plus Question of the Day.

Xbox Facebook Page – Rank 30 in 2010, No rank in 2009

  • 26 Tabs, in addition to Wall and Info – See long list of tabs in graphic above, the most I have seen on any Facebook Business Page.
  • Tabs on many topics I don’t associate with Xbox, like music.
  • Halo Tab – Content and interactions concerning this popular game.
  • Kinect Tab (Landing Tab) – Announces new product launch, the game accessory Kinect.
  • Support Tab – 6 ways to contact support, plus Top Solutions, Troubleshooting links.
  • Dance Battle Tab – Contest where Fans submit video of their best dance moves using Kinect.
  • YouTube Tab – Huge integrated channel.
